Last week-end we had a reservation made for a monthly cooking class with our friend Herve at Chez RW’s restaurant in neighbouring Rommersheim.

He loves to share his cooking, experience and his tricks to interested couples and so this time we were 5 couples with one person attending the cooking class and dinner preparation plus cooking of the menu and the others joining for dinner later.

Reiner, Bernhard and I plus Stefanie and partners had signed up, Andreas was not available last Saturday and so all was set for a good dinner evening.

Our wives left us at 4 pm to attend the kitchen, see how all was prepared, look over Herve’s shoulders and soak up cooking advice.

Reiner and I smoked a cigar at the local Café, had a beer at the pub and then joined the crowd at the restaurant.

First thing was smoking a RASCC at the restaurant smoking lounge while we discussed the upcoming menu and drank a good local red.

From 8 pm onwards we enjoyed a fantastic and generous menu upstairs at the restaurant with all the participants, starting with a slice of anchovy crème pizza, followed by variations of Loup de Mer, both as soup, as salad with the Loup on top of fennel and then another variation of the fish as an outstanding first course. Main course was rack of veal on top of Guinea fowl on a brown sauce that was just finger-licking.

Only “boring” dish in my view was the banana dessert – OK, the chocolate ice-cream was great but the banana was just boring.

We then retired to the lounge to have espresso, ginger liquor and a good cigar ( mine was a strong Robaina Farm Cañonazo perfect for the dinner ) and then we discussed the evening, the menu, the tricks.

Certainly not the last time we attend such an attractive and interesting event – again : we are blessed around here ………
