Havana 2015 – Tasting The New Punch Suiza ER 2015
21 Mar
My friend Yannick was kind enough to invite me to a high calibre tasting of the 2015 Punch Suiza Edicion Regional at LCDH Quinta y 16.
High calibre it was with many renowned Swiss merchants and Intertabak representatives attending as well as a very well known Cuban contingent and selected Aficionados from Switzerland and Italy.
A very relaxed atmosphere for the tasting that lasted for the better part of two hours.
A beautiful vitola, that I personally love, has been used for this new release, the Sobresalientes, which will be coming out as Punch Supremos in the Swiss market. 5´000 boxes of ten cigars each will be allocated.
This year also celebrates the 175-th anniversary of the foundation of Punch as a Marca. From its early origins as a “British oriented” Marca it has gained and established a wide reputation for high quality cigars.
I still love and cherish my remaining Punch Black Prince boxes.
The cigar was very readily approachable despite it freshness, offering very tasty and rich flavours that lasted throughout the smoking time.
The complexity will come with some years but one can appreciate the fine quality and perfect construction and draw.
Being a Punch it held itself quite well being paired with an Añejo rum and didn’t lose the upper hand in the match.
I certainly enjoyed it and the general consensus was that this will be a very sought after release.
An added pleasure was to share this wonderful cigar and afternoon with long time friends like former EL director Arnaldo, current director Jose, former H.Upmann director Miguel and with Carlos Robaina.
Thank you Yannick for having me !
