From Hong Kong to Vienna to Wörrstadt

Some years ago I started communicating with a fellow Blogger, Robert “Montehiba” from Austria and the correspondence developed into a friendship.
While I’m more of a “Blogger who travels while smoking a cigar” Robert has my respect for being extremely focused and knowledgeable about a particular field : Vintage cigars.
There are only very few people world-wide who specialize in this particular area so I was happy when, after putting him in contact a few years ago with Hong Kong collector and author Min Ron Nee, both developed an interest in privately pursuing matters on a box of unknown Cuban cigars from the 1930’s.
Min Ron Nee kindly ( and surprisingly ) sent Robert a box of undated Sol Aromosos Imperiales that would become his investigative obbject in the research of origin and date of production of the cigars.
While I was not able to find out much about the seals in Cuba myself, Robert has amassed such a volume of information on the cigars that the authoritative “Cigar Journal” has devoted several pages to his findings, the opening of the box in Vienna and a tasting of the cigar by Simon Chase, Colin Ganley and Reinhold Widmayer.

So far – so happy.
Today the postman rang and I received a package from Vienna containing 2 of the SOL Aromosos and a copy of the CJ magazine.
Thank you Robert, thank you Min Ron Nee.
These gems will be smoked one of these days and I am extremely pleased to be part of this selected group along with my good friend Andreas the pharmacist.
