Havana – Visit To The Jose Marti Memorial
19 Mar
Another of those places in Havana, like the Colon necropolis, that I have passed by numerous times but had never visited before.
Honey, our Cuban family friend, had a day off from medical university and offered to guide me.
A nice walk in the shade by the main artery leading to the Plaza de la Revolucion from the Vedado neighbourhood I was staying and half an hour later we were standing in the shade of this imposing monument built in the 50’s for the Cuban national hero.

After paying at the booth in different currencies, Honey, getting a discount being a student paying in MN, me paying in cookies and an additional fee for taking pictures, we went inside where a very interesting exhibition was to be found.
Among old documents and pictures of both Marti and the memorial construction were also modern artefacts like a replica of the sword of Simon Bolivar that Hugo Chavez presented to Fidel in 2002.
A cool and aesthetically very appealing place – I liked it.
We then took the lift up to the viewing platform and indeed the vistas of Havana are unique from up there.
Highly recommended to anyone visiting Havana.
