We have a private dining spot in our village that is quite interesting – it changes menus as often as the chef likes to have a new one …

I’m talking about our friend Josef, a Dutch chef living in the village who likes to invites us all over to his house for great dishes.

Bouillabaisse, Paella, Prawns, Stews – you name it, he’ll cook them up.

This time it was Indonesian Nasi Goreng rice with Chicken Sates in Peanut sauce, a fried egg topping the rice and curried fish as a side dish.

Nasi Goreng ( and in earlier times the famed Rijstafel ) and other Indonesian dishes were always very popular in the Netherlands.

Nice side-line thought : Krapoek or Krupuk, shrimp crackers. Delicious.

It soon was : Selamat Makan or Bon appétit in Bahasa Indonesia.

It was Silvia’s birthday, Josef’s wife, so our wives brought a nice charming present while Andreas hauled a crate of Heineken beer for us guys to drink.

Cigars were aged RASCC, RASS and Romeo’s plus a Bolivar Gold Medal for Andreas. All lighted in style with the new ST Dupont X-Tend, a lighter that caught my eye for its finish, quality feeling and large gas tank plus dials. Guess I’ll soon have one…

Dessert was by Inge and we welcomed a new cigar smoker into our pharmacy group, a neighbour who truly enjoyed smoking a RASS with us.

He’ll be with us next Tuesday at the lab.

Monday we’ll have a tasting of the Partagas Lusitanias GR Cosecha 2007 from Havana vs. the Lusitania Cabinet 1998.

Sounds interesting – beverage is planned to be a bottle of Hennessy Cognac that Andreas bought back in Beijing on his flight there with me.

Who says life in the village is dull ??
