Im Inter-Conti, unserem Hotel, findet zur gleichen Zeit unseres Aufenthaltes dort, eine grosse Harley-Davidson Owners Group Versammlung statt.

4 Tage lang treffen sich die Hog Besitzer aus der gesamten Golfregion hier. 62 Zimmer sind gebucht, eine Bar ist freigehalten, im Garten gibt ein riesiges open air Büffet mit Band und Show, 250 Motorräder haben einen grossen Parkplatz exklusiv für sich. Es ist nicht Sturgis, aber es sieht sehr gut aus !

Ich laufe durch die Motorräder und bewundere deren Schönheit und Exzentrik. Dazu die Typen die sie fahren. Auch wenn sie Ärzte oder Anwälte sind, sie sehen alle nach Harley aus.

Die meisten der Teilnehmer sind Expats die am Golf, im Sandkasten, leben und arbeiten.

Amerikaner, Briten, Australier, Süd-Afrikaner die aus Saudi Arabien, Kuwait, Qatar, Dubai oder Kuwait angereist sind.

Alles freundliche, offene Leute die sich freuen zu erzählen, und stolz sind ihre Hogs zu zeigen.

Nach jeder Fahrt putzen und polieren sie ihre Maschinen mit Liebe und Hingebung.

Leider verpassen wir das grosse Showfahren der Motorräder am nächsten Tag da wir leider abfliegen.

Wenn wir auch so ein „Big Smoke” in Oman veranstalten könnten …

I was in Muscat/Oman last week, and while there had the chance to witness a Harley Davidson Owners Group Meeting being held at the Muscat Inter-Continental Hotel we were staying.

More than 250 bikes assembled there during the 4 days the HOG Gulf Area Meeting took place. 62 Rooms were booked, great open air dinners with Shows were held in the Hotel Garden, a Bar was exclusively reserved for the attendees. It’s not Sturgis, but it looks fine enough !

I walked through the bikes, admiring their beauty and eccentric looks. Same with the participants, they very well might have lawyers or doctors, but sure did look the part.

Most of them were expats living and working in the Gulf, the sandpit, Americans, Brits, Aussies, South Africans who arrived in Muscat from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Dubai or Qatar.

All of them extremely friendly folks, happy to talk and explain their bikes and whereabouts and fiercely proud of their hogs.

After each ride they will spend time carefully cleaning and polishing their “loved ones”.

Regretfully I missed the big Show ride on their last day there, as I had to fly back.

Only wish we could celebrate a Big Smoke in such style ….
